Francois’ Story

We captured the story of one man’s journey out of homelessness.

Crisis

Every Christmas, Crisis opens its doors to those experiencing homelessness, offering food, warmth, companionship and the opportunity to take the first steps out of homelessness for good.

We partnered with Crisis to tell the story of Francois, a previous service user, bringing to life his journey out of homelessness, the difference that Christmas kindness can make, and the healing power of music.

The film tells the story of Francois Pierron, who became homeless when he was 17 after moving to London and having his wallet and passport stolen on his first night in the city. Francois spent the next 10 years homeless, often sleeping rough on the streets of Camden.

Filmed over a 2-day shoot across London, Francois shared that during this period of homelessness he learned to play the piano, practising all through the night at the famous railway station piano in St Pancras International.

Francois is now living in a safe, secure home, he has set up his own business, returned to full-time education and is also working on an EP.

The film will be used as part of Crisis’s annual Christmas Campaign across digital channels, along with social cuts, a suite of portrait imagery and bonus content for Francois to take away and use in his portfolio.

I used to go to St Pancras Station all night long. I’d go every night to play the piano. It became my shelter, my refuge. When I play piano, it’s like I’m creating a painting; it’s very healing. You forget about time, about your condition.

“Working with Mere Mortals to bring Francois' story to life has been inspiring. Their respectful, collaborative approach ensured his voice stayed central throughout the process, allowing us to show how dignity, compassion and meaningful support can help people like Francois take their first steps out of homelessness.”
