Uniting a movement to fight for an education for all
CLIENT: DISABLED CHILDREN’S PARTNERSHIP
PROJECT: FIGHT FOR ORDINARY
The Disabled Children’s Partnership is a coalition of more than 130 organisations and charities, supported by a network of thousands of parent carers and allies.
In response to the Government's proposed special educational needs reforms, we were briefed to develop a campaign to unite the sector, help it speak with one voice, provide a clear vision for change and show that the coalition is too big to ignore!
The key thought behind the campaign was that disabled children and their families just want the ordinary things that everyone should expect.
There is nothing ‘special’ about getting a school or nursery place. There is nothing ‘special’ about taking part in a lesson. There is nothing ‘special’ about wanting to be happy at school. There is nothing ‘special’ about wanting to combine parenting with work. These are just the ordinary things that all parents want for their children.
From this thinking, we developed the campaign platform Fight For Ordinary through a series of collaborative workshops, testing our ideas on the community as we progressed.
It's a call to arms, for the many campaigning voices out there to work together and present a powerful vision for what positive change for families looks like, one which we need the Government to take seriously in the upcoming SEND reforms
We created a suite of launch content, including posts, carousels, and videos, along with a toolkit that allowed coalition members to develop and personalise their own assets to support the campaign.
The campaign made a huge splash.
A rally at Parliament Square was organised, drawing a crowd of hundreds, a speech from Ed Davey and coverage from TV, Radio and Press, including ITV News and The Sun.
"Kids with special educational needs just want ordinary things - to go to school, to learn, to make friends, to feel safe."
